Fishy

Today was cooking class. Mom and I went to 801 Franklin to learn how to cook fish. For a few hours we hung out with the chef at the restaurant as he showed us how to prepare different dishes. Did I really learn anything, no. But mom and I had a lot of fun together. We came away with a few good recipes and met some very interesting people.

One thing I did learn is about was that some fish are "wormy". Amberjack and Mahi apparently have worms in them. When they are cooked they curl up and are little white things with in the fish. Nope not gonna eat that fish any more.

Hopefully, after this introduction to fish mom will now be able to consume certain fish.

Chef Bill preparing our shrimp bilini (pretty much a shrimp pancake).

Shrimp pancake with a crémé fraîche
This one is a savory cheesecake with bacon and blue crab meat. Mom and I actually couldn't taste the crab. It was mostly the bacon we tasted. Served warm with crackers as an appetizer. Super tasty!

This is breaded swordfish and halibut with 3 different sauces. Mango, a rémoulade, and a tartar sauce. (All L to R)

After we helped "cook" or watch people cook we got to try it all. We washed it course down with a different wine pairing. Definitely a great way to start the day with 3 glasses of wine and some tasty food!

Celebrate

This weekend was the celebration of Brittany's wedding. Of course, the only picture I have from the wedding is without the bride and without Michael.

But here is one of Michael and her family so you know they exist.
What a blessing to see all my friends and catch up on life. We really should do it more often! I loved seeing you all so much!

A summary of life...again.

My precious class from VBS. I loved the 4 days our church did Vacation Bible School. I was even more thankful that it was only 4 days instead of 5. Those kiddos can wear you out! I had a classroom with lots of my new favorite kids. You have all heard me talk/read about our "co-op" program the family joined. We I wanted to give you an idea of what we have been getting every week. Also included in the week's produce was a brown lunch bag full of green beans.

This week Dad and I went to Auburn for a CWE (Camp War Eagle) session. He was being a great Auburn volunteer and working for the Parent's Association. I went along to see old friends that I worked with in Auburn.

Doug left Dad his Father's Day gift in the fridge to surprise him when we got to the house in AU. I thought you all should enjoy it too.

And just being "that girl" I dragged Dad with me to the pep rally. I just needed a little dose of Auburn Spirit since I will miss all the games this season. The Nun is fabulous as always and her stint with camp still hasn't changed any during her retirement. And last, there is a FABULOUS Blue Bell creamery off 280 in Sylacauga. Thanks Amy for introducing me to it! You can get 2 scoops of ice cream for a dollar, and they Don't skimp on the scooping either! Absolutely amazing way to end a trip to Auburn!

Congratulations!!

I just wanted to shout out a little CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica Calvert for getting in to UAH nursing school. It has been a long, prayerful process but she is headed there this fall! Yeah for being students again!
If only we were going to be in the same city to sit at a coffee shop together! I'm so excited for you Jess! Can't wait to see where God takes you!

Number 1

Finally number one in something! Although I don't know that it will have a huge impact on my life. Kiplinger's Magazine voted Huntsvill, AL the number one city this year.
Woot for the smart people in our city!

Taste and See

Yes, that the Lord is good. But so are these bars!! I didn't take a picture, sorry! They weren't around long enough to take a picture of! I think are a new favorite of many of my friends and family. It is a great no-bake peanut butter/chocolate combination!

Hope you make and enjoy too!

Without

I have been without a computer for the past few days which explains the absence in blogging.

To summarize all you have missed ... sunshine!Post water tubing picture and playing on the lake.

This past weekend I spent some time at the lake and the pool. I am so spoiled having spent the last several years at Smith Lake with Laura, Guntersville is just gross to me now. After spending a nice relaxing day at the lake I enjoyed an afternoon at the pool. I think a lot of my time will be spent by the pool this summer.Liz attempting to fish. Blake cleaning up Liz's mess.

Chris towing in Liz after their short lived adventure.

Daniel went to Camp War Eagle and like a great camper he memorized the Auburn Creed to recite to the HCC's! I think we may have a future Camp Counselor in our midst!!
